Boat & Marine Insurance – Protect Your Boat on Tennessee Waters

From early mornings on Cherokee Lake to sunset rides across Douglas Lake, East Tennessee offers some of the best boating in the South. Whether you dock in Dandridge, Bean Station, or Morristown, you need more than just a life jacket—you need the right boat insurance. While Tennessee doesn’t require boat insurance by law, many marinas, lenders, and smart boaters know it’s essential protection for your watercraft and your wallet.

Enjoy the Water Worry-Free in East Tennessee

Owning a boat brings freedom, fun, and responsibility. If you hit another vessel, injure a guest, or run aground near the Douglas Dam, the out-of-pocket costs could be devastating without proper coverage. Even when your boat is on its trailer, it’s exposed to theft, storm damage, and liability risks.

We help protect boats, jet skis, and other personal watercraft across Morristown, Jefferson City, Sevierville, and the surrounding areas—so you can head out with confidence, not concern.

What Boat Insurance Covers on Tennessee Lakes & Rivers

We offer a range of coverage options to protect your watercraft and everyone on board:

  • Physical Damage Coverage – Repairs or replaces your boat if it’s damaged in a collision, stolen, or harmed by weather, fire, or vandalism.

  • Liability Coverage – Covers injuries or property damage you cause to others while operating your boat (e.g., hitting another boat or injuring a skier).

  • Medical Payments – Helps pay for medical expenses if you or your passengers are injured in a covered accident.

  • Uninsured Boater Coverage – Covers you if you’re struck by another boat whose owner doesn’t have insurance.

  • Trailer & Transport Coverage – Protects your boat trailer in case of damage or theft.

  • Accessories & Equipment – Covers things like fish finders, depth gauges, trolling motors, or premium audio gear.

  • Fuel Spill & Wreckage Removal – Some policies include environmental coverage for accidental fuel leaks or sunken boat recovery.

  • Emergency Assistance – Towing and on-water help in case of breakdowns or stranding.

We’ll help you choose the coverage that fits your vessel and how you use it—whether you’re out every weekend or just a few times a year.

  • Completion of a boating safety course
  • Bundling with your home, auto, or renters insurance
  • Multi-boat policy discounts

Even your storage practices can affect your premium. Let us know if your boat is kept in dry dock, on a trailer, or in water year-round—we’ll build your policy accordingly.

Local Expertise from Morristown to the Marina

From shifting winds on Cherokee Lake to shallow water markers on Douglas, we understand the real-world risks local boaters face. We also know many East Tennesseans store boats during the off-season. We can adjust your coverage accordingly to keep it active for theft or fire but reduce costs when the boat isn’t in use.

Get a Boat Insurance Quote Today

Before your next launch, make sure you’re properly covered. A quote takes just minutes—and all we need is a few details about your boat (make, model, year, length, engine HP) and where you plan to use it.

We’ll do the rest. You’ll get options tailored to your usage, your budget, and your boat—so you can focus on what matters: relaxing on the water.

  • Does my homeowner’s insurance cover my boat?

In most cases, homeowners insurance gives very minimal coverage for small boats (like a canoe or small engine boat) and usually no liability coverage for boating accidents. If you have anything more than a tiny jon boat, you’ll likely need a separate boat insurance policy to be properly protected. We can help you determine if your boat needs its own policy (it probably does, especially for powerboats and jet skis).

  • Is boat insurance required in Tennessee?

Tennessee law doesn’t require boat owners to carry insurance, but it’s highly recommended. If you have a loan on the boat, your lender will require comprehensive and collision coverage. Also, marinas or docks might require proof of liability insurance. Even if not required, without insurance you’d be on the hook for expensive damages or injuries – one collision on the water can be costly. So for financial protection and peace of mind, insurance is a must.

  • Will my boat policy cover me on any lake or just locally?

Standard boat policies typically cover you on all inland lakes and rivers within your navigational territory (for example, inland waters of the U.S. or specifically Tennessee). If you plan to take your boat to coastal waters or out of state frequently, let us know – we’ll ensure your policy’s navigational limits fit your usage. Generally, if you’re boating in East Tennessee lakes and nearby waterways, you’re covered.

  • Do you insure jet skis and other personal watercraft?

Yes, we do. Personal watercraft (PWCs) like Jet Skis, Waverunners, Sea-Doos can be covered. They often require similar coverage (liability, etc.) since they can cause injury or damage. Many insurers offer packages or add-ons for PWCs. If you own a couple of jet skis along with a boat, we might put them on the same policy or get a multi-unit discount.

  • Can I get a discount if I only use my boat part of the year?

Boat insurance is typically rated for year-round to keep you covered even in storage (for theft, fire, etc.), but insurers know our usage is seasonal. Premiums are often lower for boats that are laid up in winter or only used in freshwater. We will make sure to note your usage pattern – for example, if you only operate the boat May through September – as some carriers factor that into pricing. Also, bundling with your home/auto can provide discounts.
